Scouts-in-Action Photo Win for Underwood PDF Print E-mail

Scouts in Action chose a photo from Underwood Scout Group as the winning Queensland entry for their competition. St John's Ambulance have sent our group a 'Medium Liesure' First Aid Kit for the Den Activities. If you want to see all the winning entries click on Scouts in Action website.

Here Bridgette shows style doing CPR even though wounded herself, when you check out the wrist bandage. First Aid is just one of many skills learnt in Scouting. Click on the photo at the right for an enlarged pic.

Recently Col managed to secure three CPR dummies for Underwood for practice - way to go. Did you know Elise checks the dates on our first aid items to ensure our products within the suitable date range and fully stocked - excellent!

All participants in Scouts-in-Action week get an awesome badge for their camp blanket - it is big, bright and zingy.

2010 Nighthawk PDF Print E-mail

So if you ask the scouts do they want to go on a hike for 9km, in subzero temperatures, you can't see the next base, it's night-time; would the answer be yes. YES! YESNighthawk 2010! YES!

Because it would be Nighthawk.

1280 scouts and venturers attended with patrols leaving on their adventure from 5:30pm through until after midnight. Thank goodness for the company and a warm fire. Our scouts made several appearances on the local camp radio station thanks to our neighbours - Pittsworth. On the radio John wanted to thank "all the viewers out there", Bridgette said "YO, YO, YO" while our team wanted to play "I - spy" with the audience.

GPS tracking gave the average hike distance as just over 12km. Underwood's Patrol was led by Brett and got 100% for Environment and Emergency - congratulations. In the photo and rugged up left to right back row first is John, Cordelia, Rikki, Quoll, Taylor, Patrick, Bridgette, Sunset, and Ryan. This was the before photo and no one took a photo at 4am on their return. Around the terrain the patrol's tracked were many bases to test patrol's abilities and knowledge.

During the night stories were swapped with Pitsworth, Nerangba, Marsden, Rochedale and to name a few.

Many thanks to parents Nigel, Michael, Susan, Andrena and Adele for dropping us off and the pick up with Richard, Adele, Peter.

Activities and Forms PDF Print E-mail

Scout Section - Thur 5th Aug Meeting at Woodridge with their scout section. Night Hike into Karawatha. (Click here for permission form - must be completed)

Joey Scout Jaunt 7th Aug 10am to 3pm BP Park Games, Puzzles, Music and Outdoor Activities plus a badge. A great day with Joeys from all over the greater Brisbane and beyond.

Scout section - Operation Nighthawk proves very popular with a 9km hike using compass, showing scout skills in a patrol team. It is a challenge with temperatures dropping to levels not usually expected in Queensland. Scouts really enjoy it, as it is great for friendship. Expect warm fires, meeting friends, feeling very pleased and being overwhelmed by sleep on the way home. (Click here for Scout Section Operation Nighthawk Parent Info-Consent Form)

Jamboree of the Air / Jamboree of the Internet (JOTA/JOTI) is a favourite with Underwood Scout Group being heavily involved for the last four years. This year it is to be held at Priestdale Den for a change. Hopefully we will be able to sing along with the musical scouts of Hawaii again and I am sure Nori Kabori in Japan will have his troop at the ready, always like talking to Chris's team in NZ. These are just some of the 500,000 scouts and guides on-line for this event. We'll add games and activities to make an excellent day.

All Sections - Activity Camp BP Park 20th-21st November. A range of Scout activities for all sections arranged by Scouts Queensland.

Past Recent Events

District Group Camp for all scout sections - 23rd-25th July all sections Joeys, Cubs, Scouts, Venturers and Rovers participate in the big camp with activities for everybody. Sections will go around bases together and lots of thanks to helpers including the Venturers and Rovers. Situated on Logan Hill at Karingal Camp Site (www.campkaringal.com.au).

Abseiling InstructionAbseiling for Underwood Scout and Cub Sections 18th July at Karingal.

Scout section Triple S - 2nd to 5th July - Scout Section Skills with Scouts from all over Queensland. CONGRATULATIONS Patrick on winning the Caber Toss at Triple S - Woohoo! When I asked any scout what stood out on the camp - they said it was cold, but was that a bad thing? They danced to the DJ's beat of a night, moved briskly to over 100 activities throughout the weekend; even those canoeing had big grins as they challenged each other. Scouts were everywhere, coming down abseiling towers, crossing lakes, mudlark, pioneering, patrol challenges, treating leaders to medieval feasts in full period dress, participating in the telent quest. Each patrol had to set up their own camp and build a gateway on their campsite. A walk around the site was fascinating seeing all the ways Patrols put up campsites with well crafted gateways, smelling the wonderful range of meals cooked in all the camps and listening to the happy chatter drifting across the field. Over 800 scouts turned up so four sub-camps were set up in different places around BP Park. Many thanks to the leaders that put together a awesome camp for many scout groups around Queensland.

Joey District Camp - 19th June - An adventure, sleeping with the fishes, at Underwater World on the north coast. Bus, Food and entry is included in the price. Parents/Guardians are welcome at the same price.

District Cub Camp at Karingal 21st - 23rd May. This was an excellent Cub camp with plenty of fun things. Thanks to the helpers.

District Scout Camp at Karingal (Rob's Kitchen) 14th-16th May. With Scouts from groups within Logan District. All groups are preparing games, activities and campfire entertainment. The wide game was a whistle chase.

Joey Sleepover - 8th May Underwood Scout Den - Medieval Theme, make your Knightly costume and join the adventure. The brave knights bedecked themselves to the height of knightly attire, smithing helmets, swords and other garb, they attacked the castle, which was laid waste. All Joey participants received the Adventure Badge and had a hoot of time. Thanks to Parents that helped build Camelot Castle, while the nights gathered their strength in slumber.

Scouts only - 1st May Patrol Activity; Nick's Bike Rack - learnt some welding and other skills for a bike rack for the Den.

Scouts only - 1st May Patrol Activity; Cordelia's Cool Camp - Adventurous and have some fun. Camp Oven Lamb Shanks cooked slowly over hot coals.

ANZAC DAY parade was Sunday 25th April for all sections (Joey, Cub, Scout, Venturer), parents and leaders. A good turn out of scout members from the Logan District to show support for the members of the armed services that gave so much for us. See photos in this website gallery.

Police Station Tour was for Cubs & Scouts 22nd April at the New Slacks Creek Police station between ALDI and "Focus by James" restaurant Springwood. Our scouts were well behaved and Snr Const Shipman enthralled our young members with anecdotes and a tour of the station. See the photos in our gallery one scout aprehended another in handcuffs.
